Words Have Power

“I tell you, on the day of judgment people will give account for every careless word they speak, for by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned.” (Matthew 12:36-37, ESV)

The words that come out of our mouths have power; power to convict and power to save. Jesus has forewarned us to be careful of what we say and what we allow to come out of our mouths. He tells us this because He has the discernment of how powerful words are. As Ambassadors and Disciples of Jesus Christ, we read in Genesis chapter 1 where God created the Heavens and the Earth. He did not raise a magic wand or throw some pixy dust in the air, God opened His mouth and spoke everything into existence.

Genesis 1:3, And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light:” (ESV). Genesis 1:6, And God said, “Let there be an expanse in the midst of the waters, and let it separate the waters from the waters” (ESV). Genesis 1:9, And God said, “Let the waters under the heavens be gathered together into one place, and let the dry land appear” (ESV).

God spoke and His will was done. In Luke 4:36 after Jesus spoke and drove out a demon from a man, “And they were all amazed and said to one another, “What is this word? For with authority and power he commands the unclean spirits, and they come out”” (ESV)! Jesus gave us the Holy Spirit and with His power and might, we have the same authority. Be careful of the words that come out of your mouth, they can justify or they can condemn.

Thanks, Minister Shawn for the reminder that our words have power and all that e say against others in judgment we will be held accountable for when we are also judged.
