Spiritual Garden: Human Purpose

Genesis 2:15-17 – “The Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and keep it. And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, “You may surely eat of every tree of the garden, but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die” (ESV).

Creation of Man and Woman

Our Lord created man and woman for a purpose. We must trust in Him with all our hearts and know He has a plan for us. As we seek His discernment for our lives, God provides us with insight into His purpose of creating man, woman, and the Garden of Eden. “The LORD God put the man in the Garden of Eden to work the soil and take care of the garden…The Lord God used the rib from the man to make a woman. Then he brought the woman to the man” (Genesis 2:15, 2:22, ERV). As a unit, man and woman become one to work for the Lord to glorify Him.

Human Purpose

Our purpose is to worship God and praise His Holy name! We must continue to honor our Lord and invest in our Spiritual garden according to His instructions. Genesis Chapter 2 reveals that after God created the earth, the sky, and everything in it, he rested on the seventh day. Before the Lord started His work on creating the heavens and us, there were no plants on earth, nothing growing, because He had not created life, did not provide rain, and there was no one to attend to the garden.  After He created the heavens, the earth and everything in it, He rested after completion of His masterpiece.

God allowed water to come from the earth and cover it. God created man from the dust of the ground and even breathed life into man. The Bible also states that God planted the first garden and allowed man to live there. God created all the trees. He made trees for food, the tree of life, and the tree of knowledge of good and evil.  According to the Bible, the river Eden watered the garden and separated into four smaller rivers. Each river had a purpose and destination. God placed man in the Garden of Eden to take care of the garden. The man was already armed with instructions, and now his purpose was to obey the commands while taking care of the Garden of Eden.

The book of Genesis reveals that God gave a command to man. God told Man that he could eat from any tree in the garden EXCEPT, I repeat EXCEPT from the tree of good and evil because man will die. The Lord did not want man to be alone and created a companion for him. Our Lord used the dust from the ground and made every field animal and all birds. In seeking a companion for man, God created every living creature and allowed man to name each one.

The Scriptures reveal that God put man into a deep sleep and used one of man’s ribs to create a woman fit for him. This union reflects the significance of joining man and woman as Genesis 2:24 states “That is why a man leaves his father and mother and is joined to his wife. In this way two people become one.” Even though the man and his wife were naked, that represents innocence; they were not ashamed as they are of God. As God’s creation, we should walk with God, learn from His wisdom, maintain our innocence, and grow in His word.  The book of 1 Corinthians 14:20 states “Brothers and sisters, don’t think like children. In evil things be like babies, but in your thinking you should be like full-grown adults.” The innocence of babies, the thoughts are not evil, but pure. As adults, we should reflect Christ-like behavior to be better role models for children.

Heavenly Blessings

Our Lord is merciful and blesses us at His will, when He thinks we deserve it. Reflecting upon how to cultivate our garden using our Lord’s wisdom, with patience and perseverance we will be successful during our roles in the process of our Christian Discipleship Journey.  God really knows how to take care of His children. God does things when He, not us, is good and ready!  Thank God in advance for His grace, love, and mercy! We need to acknowledge what time it is and give everything to God and allow Him to take control of our lives. No one knows the day or the hour of the arrival of our Lord. Only God Knows When that Time Will Be. The book of Matthew 24:36, state “No one knows when that day or time will be. The Son and the angels in heaven don’t know when it will be. Only the Father knows” (ERV). Only God, our Heavenly Father knows….In creating the heavens, earth, and us, God placed instructions and the importance of being obedient in maintaining our Spiritual garden filled with the Fruits of the Spirit. No one, but no one, besides God, knows the day and the hour of the return of our Lord to earth, so we should maintain an acceptable garden pleasing to Him, not man.

Earthly Struggles

One may say that it is not easy to do right all the time, we must admit. We all still make mistakes. Seeking forgiveness, true repentance, and changing ways that are offensive to our Lord is made easier with the help of Jesus who strengthens us. Another New Year is upon us! How many of us made New Year Resolutions? Did the resolutions have anything to do with becoming a better servant for our Lord?  Did we already break those resolutions? As the time and seasons go by, we should concentrate on what is important, keep God first, and pursue His will. Remaining in alignment with God reduces earthly struggles as He brings us a clarity and discernment that only He can provide. Start celebrating Thanksgiving now! This is the day, this is the hour! Thank God for Every Single Thing Today! Knowing that God deserves our Thanksgiving, we should increase our levels of gratitude daily. We provide thanksgiving for our Creator and seek His instructions on cultivating, maintaining, and recognizing our purpose and role in growing our Spiritual garden.

Victorious Lord

Our Lord leads us into battle and we are more than conquerors with Him who protects us. Keeping God first, we can overcome earthly struggles and declare victory in the name of Jesus! God loves you! As we embrace this year, filled with trials, tribulations, blessings, and riches in Christ Jesus, let us remain standing on the word of God, and thank Him for any given situation as we properly maintain our Spiritual garden, and trust that He will work it out! Keep God first and foremost in your life and continue to engage in eternal Thanksgiving to our God of Wisdom. Like the rivers of Eden, we all have a purpose and destination. Seek God’s instructions to ensure we do not derail allowing Him to open the floodgates of heaven and empower us with resources to advance fulfilling our purpose to accomplish His will. We thank you Heavenly Father, we give you all the praise, honor, and glory. Blessings in the mighty name of Jesus!
