Let God be Your Refuge

But for me it is good to be near God; I have made the Lord GOD my refuge, that I may tell of all your works. (Psalm 73:28, ESV)

It is good for us to be near God and even better if He is near us. As we awake daily, God has given us another day to worship Him and to do good works. The actions we take after arising are very crucial each day. It is like we are given a new life each day to be a better person and allow God to continue to cleanse us and make us righteous in His eyes. However, if we continue to do the same things over and over, for example, not seeking His guidance for wisdom, holding onto anger, and not forgiving our neighbors so we can love them, Jesus will not know who you are or write your name in His Book of Life.

In the parable of the ten virgins who all wanted to meet the bridegroom in the book of Matthew chapter 25, Jesus is letting us know that only half of us at the time He returns will He know. Five out of the ten virgins had the wisdom to bring extra oil to light their lamps. The other five had to leave the path of the bridegroom to seek someone else for more oil because their oil ran out and their lamp stopped burning. When they returned to the path of the bridegroom, he had already passed and entered the house. They tried to knock on the door but it was too late, the door was shut.

Matthew 25:11-13 states, “Afterward the other virgins came also, saying, ‘Lord, lord, open to us.’ But he answered, ‘Truly, I say to you, I do not know you.’ Watch therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour” (ESV).

The virgins are all of us, the bridegroom is Jesus, the house is the Kingdom of God, and the oil is the Holy Spirit that gives us light to see God’s will for us. Each day we awake, we must live it as if Jesus is coming to marry us and take us to our home in Heaven with God.
