Who Do Men Say that I AM?

By Minister LaTrece Davis

During a time when Jesus was alone with His disciples He asked them “Who do men say that I am?” They replied, “Some say John the Baptist. Others Elijah. And still others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.” Yet this is the part that I personally LOVE. Jesus responded, “What about you? Who do you say that I am?” Peter answered “You are the Christ, the Son of the Living God!” Jesus told Him “Flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but My Father which is in heaven.”

What was the rock that Jesus built His church? It wasn’t Peter! The rock ()or foundation) that Jesus was talking about was hearing from heaven. We as believers have been given the keys to the kingdom of God and that is our ability to hear from God. The world only goes by what they can comprehend through their flesh (their senses). But we as believers have the privilege to operate from the Kingdom of Heaven stand point. That is, we choose to be led by the Holy Spirit instead of our flesh. There is a HUGE difference between spirit and flesh (believers and unbelievers). Though situations may seem bleak or hopeless we can rely on the words God has given us to see us through to victory!

Think about all the lands and nations Joshua led the Israelites to conquer. How did this happen? Well think about what God told Joshua:

“Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the law my servant Moses gave you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, that you may be successful wherever you go. 8 Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful. 9 Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.”

The Lord told Joshua that as he (Joshua) meditated on the word God had given him, that he (Joshua) would make his way prosperous and have good success. Well what was the book of the Law? I used to think the book of the law was the whole law that Moses gave to the Israelites but then one day the Lord asked me “What was the book of the law I gave Joshua to meditate on. Intrigued, I set out to study and the Holy Spirit led me to Deuteronomy 31:-7-9.

Deuteronomy 31:7-9 – “Then Moses summoned Joshua and said to him in the presence of all Israel, ‘Be strong and courageous, for you must go with this people into the land that the LORD swore to their ancestors to give them, and you must divide it among them as their inheritance. 8 The LORD himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.’ 9 So Moses wrote down this law and gave it to the Levitical priests, who carried the ark of the covenant of the LORD, and to all the elders of Israel.”

When God told Joshua “This book of the Law shall not depart out of your mouth but you shall meditate on it day and night” He was telling him “Don’t change your confession.” To meditate does not mean to just sit and be silent. The Hebrew word for meditate is “hagah” which means to utter or to speak. As Joshua obeyed God’s commands and spoke only what God said, he made his own way prosperous and had good success.

Therefore, when we speak what God speaks (no matter the situation or circumstance) we will make our way prosperous and have good success. How is that? Because God tells His people that He watches over His OWN word to perform it. We must be AWARE of the words that we speak because either we speak life to something and it lives or we speak death do something and it dies. It doesn’t matter what your situation may look like, ONLY SPEAK GOD’S WORD. We were never created to climb any mountains but to speak to it. Our words should ALWAYS be FAITH words. Why? Because God is a faith God and without faith it is impossible to please God! Faith always perceives as real fact what is not revealed to the senses.

I had a friend who said that He didn’t want to live to see 30 (He felt that he had been through too much and that 30 would be too old for him), well he died at the age of 26. I recently watched a documentary on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. who kept confessing that He would not live to see 40, and died at 39. The word of God says that “people are ensnared by the words of their mouth. Think of Esau, He gave up his birth rite (through his words) for a meal, and later, even though he fought for it with bitter tears he couldn’t receive it back!

Never take lightly, who you are in Christ! Your words are powerful!! For your tongue holds the power of life and death. A man in his carnal, unrenewed self, can only assume, guess, or reason. But we as believers have the Holy Spirit within to guide us into ALL truth and show us things to come. So speak only what God says!!! God’s word is never without POWER.
