God’s Power Within

shawn-savage-150-150Having faith in God may mean stepping out of your comfort zone. If your family did not know God, did not teach God, and your childhood environment only involved things that where real, believing in something you cannot see, touch, and/or smell will only be seen as a figment of imagination.

Having faith in Christ may mean even a bigger step out of one’s comfort zone. To be a Christian means to be a believer and follower of Jesus Christ; His Disciple, His Ambassador. This also means that you must believe and have faith that there is only One God but He is three persons, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit called the Trinity.

This faith in God cannot be accomplished without His Help, His Power, His Spirit dwelling within. Apostle Paul write in Ephesians chapter 3, “that according to the riches of his glory he may grant you to be strengthened with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith–that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may have strength to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God. Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen.” (Ephesians 3:16-21, ESV) It is by the power of the Holy Spirit that Jesus sends to be with us, that our faith can grow strong in Him. Without the Spirit of God, we do not have the strength to fight off our nature human desires for sin and evil. The Good News is that Jesus came and paid for our sins and that God will forgive our sins; ALL OF THEM!

We are in a spiritual warfare and the battle starts within us. We are either on the side of God or the side of the enemy. Jesus says in Matthew 12:, “This is war, and there is no neutral ground. If you’re not on my side, you’re the enemy; if you’re not helping, you’re making things worse. ‘There’s nothing done or said that can’t be forgiven. But if you deliberately persist in your slanders against God’s Spirit, you are repudiating the very One who forgives. If you reject the Son of Man out of some misunderstanding, the Holy Spirit can forgive you, but when you reject the Holy Spirit, you’re sawing off the branch on which you’re sitting, severing by your own perversity all connection with the One who forgives.”‘ (Matthew 12:30-32, The Message) Each of us can have the Holy Spirit operating in our lives but that does not mean we have one the battle. It actually means that the battle has just begun. When the Holy Spirit brings you to faith and you accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, Satan goes to work and tries everything in His power to turn you away from Christ.

Not everyone is ready to receive the Holy Spirit. Not everyone is strong enough to stand their ground in a spiritual battle. The Spirit of God knows when you are ready, He knows when it is time to dwell in you. Jesus told His disciples in Matthew 13 why He taught them in parables or stories, “The disciples came up and asked, ‘Why do you tell stories?’ He replied, ‘You’ve been given insight into God’s kingdom. You know how it works. Not everybody has this gift, this insight; it hasn’t been given to them. Whenever someone has a ready heart for this, the insights and understandings flow freely. But if there is no readiness, any trace of receptivity soon disappears. That’s why I tell stories: to create readiness, to nudge the people toward receptive insight. In their present state they can stare till doomsday and not see it, listen till they’re blue in the face and not get it.”‘ (Matthew 13:10-13, The Message) Although the Holy Spirit may not dwell in us from birth, He is constantly with us trying to get our hearts ready to receive Him.

It is our choice to allow the Power of God to dwell within us. We can accept or reject the Holy Spirit because God has given us free will. God’s gave us power from the beginning because He made us in His image and likeness (Genesis 1:26). God gave us freedom to choose Him or reject Him. It is only by God’s power within that we have this choice. Without God given us this power of choice, we would never be able to enter His Kingdom and be reconciled to Him through the Son Christ Jesus.

Continue to ask questions, seek knowledge, and knock on closed doors. Allow the Holy Spirit to give you the answers, edify you, and open the doors. When reading God’s Word, allow the Holy Spirit to reveal to you the Spiritual message He has for you. All God’s Power within you to operate without ceasing.
