Dwell Securely

Acts 19:15 – “But the evil spirit answered them, “Jesus I know, and Paul I recognize, but who are you?” (ESV)
Proverbs 1:33 – “…but whoever listens to me will dwell secure and will be at ease, without dread of disaster” (ESV).
Psalm 4:8 – “In peace I will both lie down and sleep; for you alone, O Lord, make me dwell in safety” (ESV).

We must pray to God and ask Him to Dwell with us and give us Security. God wants us to be obedient and follow His commands, and He will dwell with us. In the Book of Acts, Chapter 19 verses 1-20, we see that Apostle Paul was in Corinth and was asking the people if they had received the Holy Spirit, but not only if they received Him, if they received Him when they believed. We cannot leave out that very important part because only those whom truly believe that Jesus Christ is our Lord and Savior, the only begotten Son of God, was sacrificed on the cross for our sins, buried, and risen on the third day will receive the Holy Spirit. In Matthew chapter 3:11, John the Baptist informs us that he is baptizing us with water to prepare the way, but one mightier that he will baptize with fire and the Holy Spirit. The people of Corinth had not ever heard of the Holy Spirit. This means that the people performing baptisms in Corinth were not baptized with the Holy Spirit.

The people were being baptized but they said that they never heard of the Holy Spirit. Paul asked them then what are you being baptized into? There reply was John’s baptism, and Paul explained that the baptism by John was for repentance and to believe that Jesus and the Kingdom of God was coming. It is very important then and now to repent for our sins. God will forgive us for all of our sins if we truly believe in Him and repent. As soon as the twelve men there with Paul heard the truth, they all received the baptism of the Holy Spirit as Paul laid his hands on them.

Paul moves on from there and enters the synagogue, which is stated in Acts 19:8 – 10. For three months, he boldly preached about the Gospel and the Kingdom of God as Jesus commanded. Many had unbelief because of their stubbornness and speaking against Jesus and Christianity, also known as the Way. Paul continued to follow Jesus’ instructions and leave any place that would not listen to the Word being preached, and the Disciples that were with Paul also left the area and started a two-year journey around Asia. In Matthew 28:16-20, Jesus gives us His Great Commission to go and make disciples throughout all the nations and verse 10 of Acts 19 says it took two years for all the people to hear “the Word of the Lord both Jews and Gentiles.” One of the reasons they stayed so long is because the gospel must be preached throughout all nations so all can hear the Word and then Jesus will return to us as Matthew 24:14 states.

Having faith in the power of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit is what will allow God’s blessings to be bestowed upon you. The faith in Asia, as Paul and the Disciples where preaching, grew tremendously that extraordinary miracles were being performed through Paul from God. We are not talking about ordinary miracles, or extra ordinary miracles, but the Word in Acts 19 verse 11 is extraordinary, which surpasses the two without measure. Verse 12 says that the faith of the people were so strong that the clothes of Paul where being used by others to heal the sick and drive out evil spirits. In Matthew 17:20, Jesus tells us that if we have faith even as big as a mustard seed we can move a mountain and that nothing would be impossible for us. It may make one wonder how they got Paul’s clothes in the first place; stealing is a sin so they must have borrowed them or it was their clothing that touched Paul.

Be careful though, because if you do not have faith, then you may bring upon evil spirits against you. As we also see in Acts 19:12, others that were not a disciple could heal and drive out evil spirits because of their faith. What happens when we try and do not have faith and/or possibly trying to do God’s work for the wrong reasons? In verses 13 – 16 we see the sons of Sceva, which tells us they were the sons of a Chief or High priest. When they tried to drive out evil spirits, the evil spirits laughed at them. Not only did they laugh at them and then told them they do not know them, they also beat them and stripped them naked and sent them running. If they truly believed and were baptized into the Holy Spirit with other Christians, the evil spirits would have seen that Jesus Christ is with them and begged them for forgiveness. Mark chapter 5 tells us how a legion of evil spirits begged Jesus to send them into pigs instead of destroying them.

The book of Acts 19:17 – 20 reveal how miracles and the Word of God can reach the ends of the Earth. The above story became well-known to Jews and Greeks and they began to extoll Jesus our Lord. They did not make an idol out of Paul or the Disciples; they understood that Jesus gave them the power and authority. Many non-believers became believers, repented, and confessed their sins. Many valuable things in the flesh were destroyed, things that were being used for evil doing; books of magic with high earthly value were destroyed. The Gospel spread and increased with greatness.

God can Prevent our Problems as long as we invite Him into our lives. We must have faith that He will do what He says. God wants to Dwell with us, protect us, and secure us from Satan’s evil doings. Just trust in Jesus and have faith. Praise Him throughout the day.

Our Lord is merciful and blesses us at His will, when He thinks we deserve it. It is by His power and authority that we can dwell on earth in security. If we use our Lord’s wisdom that comes to us from the Holy Spirit, we will be successful. God knows how to take care of His children. God does things when He, not us, is good and ready! Thank God for His grace, love, and mercy as He ministers to your heart. We need to acknowledge what time it is and give everything to God and allow Him to take control of our lives. We are never alone with God Dwelling with us. I know Jesus is with me so I am never alone. He sends His angels to protect us. The Holy Spirit comforts and counsels me throughout the day so I know I am not alone. Christ is with us all and you are not alone. Amen!!! Praise the Lord!!! Hallelujah!!!

Provide thanksgiving to our Creator and seek His instructions on preventing problems as we ask Him to dwell with us.  God loves us! As we embrace these days, filled with trials, tribulations, blessings, and riches in Christ Jesus, let us remain standing on the word of God, and thank Him for any given situation as we patiently wait on His return having faith that we are not alone. The Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit are Amazing and want to Prevent your Problems!
