Consolidate Yourselves in Love

Our Heavenly Father commands us!

“Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.” (1 John 4:7-8 NIV).

The Scripture reveals a daily challenge “But to you who are listening I say: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you. If someone slaps you on one cheek, turn to them the other also. If someone takes your coat, do not withhold your shirt from them” (Luke 6:27-28 NIV).

A mystery of love is “that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ (Ephesians 3:17-18 NIV).

Love is a decision Jesus Christ made “As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Now remain in my love. If you keep my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commands and remain in his love” (John 15:9-10 NIV).

Effective consolidation of love requires us to follow God’s command with a pure heart. Loving each other is His command. It is a challenge. It is a mystery. It is a decision. As Jesus Christ staunchly loves us (despite our shortcomings), He faithfully forgives our trespasses if we only ask. As humans, we have the free will to make choices. Reflect on individuals you have loved, people you forgave or who forgave you; and decisions you have made and acted upon. Maybe the individuals did not return your love, forgave you but held a grudge, and decisions were not fruitful. Their love was not agape (unconditional) in comparison to how Jesus loves you. Yes they may have feelings for you. Maybe they may not support you as you would prefer, their love was more of a phileo (brotherly) type.

Relying on God’s agape love and emulating His behavior and treatment of one another, we can continue to pursue the height, depth, and width of the purpose of His love. Our Lord does not discriminate, He loves us equally. “For God does not show favoritism” (Romans 2:11 NIV). By His eternal grace, we are privileged to implement available resources to complete Jehovah’s will; to remain competitive in this race to eternal salvation. Why not embrace God’s unconditional love, doctrine commands, spiritual challenges, unfolding mysteries, and implement intelligent decisions to continue being productive ambassadors of Christ?

Revelations 3:7-8: “To the angel of the church in Philadelphia write: These are the words of him who is holy and true, who holds the key of David. What he opens no one can shut, and what he shuts no one can open. I know your deeds. See, I have placed before you an open door that no one can shut. I know that you have little strength, yet you have kept my word and have not denied my name”. (NIV)
