Teach by Example

AFCRadioShawn-160-241-03112013As parents of our children, it is important that we set a “GOOD” example for out children. Mothers will be role models for their daughters and fathers will be role models for their sons. It is important for the child to see that their parent is modeling our LORD and Savior Jesus Christ fo whom is the perfect role model.

Proverbs 22:6 states, “Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.”

Many parents may have the understanding that they are training their child the right way. They are raising their child the same way they were raised. This is all well if the Word of God is the center of that training. We should use God’s Word to teach our children the ways of God.

Many times we do not listen to our children, and may be to quick to jump to the physical discipline of giving our child a whipping. Do not get me wrong, God’s Word i beleive allows for the physical discipline; however, I feel that it is the last resort.

Proverbs 13:24, “Whoever spares the rod hates their children, but the one who loves their children is careful to discipline them.”

Researching how a Shepherd uses the “ROD” you find that they not only use it for discipline if one of the herd is acting up, first they use it to guide, move, and pull the sheep. The Shepherd’s Rod has a hook on it to help train the sheep in the way to go and then yes at times it can be used for physical discipline as a last resort.

Let us show the love of Christ to our children and be the best example we can be in teaching them the ways of Jesus.

Jesus Loves YOU!!!
Amen!
