From 1980 to 1987 Pastor Thrasher was in the Army Reserve while attending and graduating from seminary and serving as a pastor in Texas and Arkansas. He reentered active duty as a chaplain in 1987. As a chaplain, he served in Texas, Germany, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Iraq, Bosnia, Italy, Missouri and Alabama. Pastor Thrasher is married to the former Joyce Brown of Kalamazoo, Michigan. They have three sons. Christopher works for the Federal Aviation Administration in Atlanta as an Air Traffic Controller and is a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. Zachary is a sophomore at Auburn University and serves in the Alabama Army National Guard as a Combat Medic. Noah is a senior at Enterprise High School where he plays varsity soccer and participates in the Enterprise High School Encores show choir.

Joyce was born in Kalamazoo, Michigan and lived there until she moved to Germany at age 18. From Germany, she moved to Tennessee and then on to Enterprise, Alabama, where she has lived for the past 20 years.

Joyce’s husband retired from the Army in 2005. Prior to his retirement, Joyce was active in ministry on Fort Rucker; leading Protestant Women of the Chapel (PWOC); volunteering at Vacation Bible School; teaching Sunday School; starting children’s church at Chapel of Wings; and contributing to tremendous growth at Chapel of Wings through her ability to quickly connect with people and her keen insights about how to help people feel welcome and included.

Since her husband’s retirement, Joyce has used those same abilities to help add over 1,800 new members to The Grace Place Church in Enterprise, where she serves God in a variety of ways. She is the Director of Women’s Ministry; teaches a ladies’ Bible study; volunteers at the church’s food pantry/clothes closet; and helps with many other ‘odds and ends’ around the church. In addition to her hands-on service at The Grace Place, Joyce reaches out to women, including pastor’s wives, via a blog on her website; www.crazypastorswife.com.

Joyce is married to Donny Thrasher, who is originally from Arkansas and currently serves as the Senior Pastor of The Grace Place Church. They have three sons.
