Enrique Small::Christian Drama Director

AFCRShowGuest021713EnriqueSmall02012013_163_240Enrique R. Small Jr. is the co-Founder and President of Misioneros Productions, LLC, and the visionary behind the Drama Cantata Plays in New York. A Panamanian native, his drama days began at the San Cristobal School gymnasium where he performed in the Easter Drama Cantata, with the Youth Quake Drama Company, under the direction of Walter St. Jones. This is where Enrique learned most of the dramatic craft. Enrique is also the Auditor of Christian Mission of Panama, Incorporated.

This happily married father of 5 has been able to take his passion, valuable experience, and apply it to Drama Plays in New York for the past 16 years. Life was not always so happy. After being married for 4 1/2 years, on April 26, 2002, the Lord called home his first wife, making him a young widower with a two-year old son. This tragedy has strengthened his resolve to make sure that Biblical messages are right to the point and realistic; no tipping through the tulips.

The Drama Cantata has surely been a surprising and upcoming Ministry of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Transcending the age gap, it brings together a child as young as 7 months old, up to an 80-year old person. The Christian Drama performance has included males and females from over 20 different churches who have come together to promote the message of delivering the Good News of the Gospel during the Easter season.

At a time when working together with other churches was not popular (everyone having a busy schedule), for three months these devoted Christians sacrificed their posts all over the city to participate in the Drama Cantata since 1997. No previous experience has been necessary. No professional training has been required. From the writers, to the light operators, actors, singers, dancers, musical arrangements, costumes and props, everyone has given their best for the cause of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Many times volunteers had to sacrifice weekends, sometimes endure 12-hour rehearsals, but the Drama Plays has captured audiences to glorify God. Many of those audience members have entered with great skepticism, wondering what kind of play they could possibly see at a church. For a minimum of ten dollars, the biblical stories have hit home. The actors make the Bible stories come to life. Illustrations have unfolded to demonstrate the message of those biblical stories as it relates to our daily lives.

Sixteen years later, the Drama Cantata has not lost its luster, magic, or anointing. Now, in a new venue, with more collaboration, fresh interest and enthusiasm, the message of the Gospel of Jesus Christ continues to be ministered. Dealing with diversity, people of all ages, from the old to the young, people with varying levels of acting or dance experience can be a challenge. Enrique, by the grace of God, was able to produce dramas that have been a blessing to hundreds of people. His unique ability to discern a person’s competence and place them in the right role or position has been one of the keys to the effectiveness of the Drama Cantata.

Who knows what the future has in store, knowing that the Lord’s return is drawing near? “My prayer is that God would continue to use the message of these plays to transform the life of at least one person, for surely one soul is worth more than all the Dramas put together.”
