A World Without Orphans

AFCRShowGuest102013BrittanyDeVries09302013_150_150Hi!

My name is Brittany DeVries I’m a creative producer living in Panama City, Panama. My husband and I have four children, we are the first foster family in Panama’s Pilot Fostercare Program.

Recently I was invited to screen my short documentary “A World Without Orphans” in Chiang Mai, Thailand at the upcoming Global Forum for World Without Orphans (February 2016).

In their own words: “This will be a strategic time to activate, connect, and equip the Christian community worldwide to address the orphan crisis, as leaders from around the world develop and share solutions that provide every child with a safe, stable, and nurturing family.”

Since screening “A World Without Orphans” at the Christian Alliance for Orphans Summit in Nashville, TN (May 2015) our documentary has been featured on numerous websites: Better Care Network, Faith To Action, World Without Orphans, Orphan Resources and Missions Dilemma. We are also included in Faith To Action’s “Journey of Faith” 6-week training course for churches and ministries.

So what makes the Global Forum: WWO screening special? Nearly 200 global leaders will be gathered in Thailand February 11th-14th. Many are leading national movements within their countries (i.e. Kenya Without Orphans), impacting thousands of children – encouraging their local churches and communities to become involved through family reunification, foster care and adoption. This is an incredible opportunity to meet with and form relationships with leaders of these movements. I have also been asked to help teach a workshop about media and advocacy. From the beginning our goal has been to offer the documentary as a free resource to be used to further national movements. Currently our documentary is being translated into Spanish and Romanian.

Support my upcoming trip to Thailand to screen “A World Without Orphans” at the Global Forum for World Without Orphans at GoFundMe https://www.gofundme.com/wwoglobalforum

Sincerely,
Brittany DeVries

How Servant-Leaders Think

Source: How Servant-Leaders Think

I’m grateful beyond words for the godly heritage God gave me. Two incredible parents who loved God and served Him tirelessly set an amazing example for me.

They raised me with a strong biblical sense of right and wrong, but somewhere along the way I translated that into seeing people as right or wrong.

In recent years, God has done extensive work on my heart and mind regarding how I view people. I no longer paint them with broad strokes, but instead appreciate that each person has a story that has brought them to where they are. There are valid reasons for why they think the way they do and behave the way they do. We’re all works in progress.

Every person is right about some things and wrong about some things. None of us gets it right every time.

Embracing that truth frees us from being judgmental, harsh, and dismissive.

That doesn’t make the wrong things okay, it means we choose to love people where they are, knowing we aren’t perfect either. We have received grace from God and we want to receive grace from others, so we give grace.

It also means we pray for people, love them, and do what we can to help, guide, and encourage.

Servant-leaders draw people to Jesus, not by always telling them what’s “right” but by consistently showing them who He is.

Bill Jenkins – fifteen

AFCRShowGuest-BillJenkins-03262015-164-225Pastor Bill Jenkins, founder and Senior Pastor of the Church of A.C.T.S., is a seasoned prophet whom God is raising up, in the last of the last days, to tear down the devil’s strongholds, and to bring hope to the hopeless.

As a seventeen-year-old with a strong passion for baseball, Bill Jenkins had an opportunity to sign a professional contract, but it was only three days before his 18th birthday when Jenkins had an encounter with God, which completely changed his life and future.

Instead of seeking success through baseball, Jenkins became a youth pastor and traveled the United States preaching the gospel. Later, Jenkins attended Christ for the Nations Bible College in Dallas, Texas, where he graduated in 1990. That is when God spoke to Pastor Bill again, and told him to go to the heart of America to get the spiritual heart pumping and the blood flowing. Thus, Jenkins traveled to Indianapolis, Indiana where he set in motion the Church of A.C.T.S., a spirit-filled church sitting on 34 acres on Indianapolis’ South side.

Among his many accomplishments, Pastor Bill Jenkins has worked with the Mayor of Indianapolis and other city officials in effort to reduce crime, and earned the Mayor’s Community Service Award. He has organized large events at Bankers Life Fieldhouse and the Indian State Fairgrounds to unite the churches of Indianapolis, and has been recognized as a “Man of Distinction” by the Indiana Minority Business Magazine.

Aside from his professional life, God has also called Bill Jenkins to be a husband to his wife, Britain Jenkins and a father to his three sons, Bryce, Brock and Brady. Anyone will find that Bill Jenkins is a model of what a godly man looks like, not only in the pulpit, but also as a head in the family; he also makes time to coach his sons’ baseball, football and basketball teams, among many other duties in his life. Pastor Bill Jenkins is a man of God with a prophetic word for our nation.

Isaiah 38:4-6: “Then the word of the LORD came to Isaiah: “Go and tell Hezekiah, ‘This is what the LORD, the God of your father David, says: I have heard your prayer and seen your tears; I will add fifteen years to your life. And I will deliver you and this city from the hand of the king of Assyria. I will defend this city” (NIV).

DON’T PULL THE ALARM

fire alarm.bmpIn the small town of  Enterprise, Alabama in 1997,  a new post office opened. It was the talk of the town! The old post office was a few miles away, behind the courthouse, and it had not been updated since 1650. Well, at least it looked that way!

I had to mail a package a few days after the Grand Opening. Zach was four and Noah was one. As a young mother, and like most young mothers, I dragged my kids all over town while running errands. I kept Noah strapped in the stroller and Zach would hold my hand. It usually worked, but sometimes the boys interrupted my errands. Noah would get fussy, but I always kept a supply of Teddy grahams and juice boxes for Noah. My sweet Zach was good about staying right beside me and I usually didn’t have to worry about him running off and getting into trouble.

When I got to the post office that day, the line was liter- ally out the door. That’s when I remembered UPS had just gone on strike. Everyone now had to use the post office to mail their packages.

I was in line for at least thirty minutes; it was moving at a snail’s pace. We were about half way to a clerk when Noah began fussing. Unfortunately, I had forgotten to bring inside the snacks and drink boxes which were in my car. As I was trying to calm Noah, I heard the fire alarm go off, and it was loud! I looked up from Noah, and that’s when I saw my sweet, 4-year-old Zach standing underneath the bright red fire alarm box with his hand on the pull lever. He was guilty as charged!

The postmaster yelled to everyone, “Evacuate! Evacuate the building now! The fire department is on the way!” Even though I told the postmaster that my son had pulled the alarm, he replied, “Ma’am, this is mandatory procedure. Everyone must evacuate. Now!”

Of course, I was not popular in the post office after that. People looked at me as if I was the worst mother ever. I obvi- ously didn’t have control over my kids, or that would never have happened. I quickly left and put both kids in the van where Zach had a little meeting with a wooden spoon I car- ried in my purse. Needless to say, I did not mail my package that day or even any day that week. I was too embarrassed to go back to the post office. I waited two weeks until the UPS strike was over!

I see this same scenario often played out in my life. At times I’ve pulled the alarm on a situation. I’ve jumped to conclusions about a person just because someone told me something about that person. I’ve made fast judgments and quick decisions without asking God and waiting for His answer. I’ve believed the gossip when I didn’t know the whole truth.

The alarm I pull by being hasty causes a fire truck or two to put out the “fire” I lit by not hearing correctly, by being impatient, or by listening to gossip. I’ve had to learn this lesson the hard way, and I’m still learning it. And yet, every time I pull the alarm, God gently corrects me. Next time I hope to be more careful.

Wait patiently for the Lord. Be brave and courageous. Yes, wait patiently for the Lord. (PSALM 27:14 NLT)

LynSmith-70-70-08052013In light of the outlandishly gruesome and horrible videos that surfaced of Planned Parenthood executives talking about selling body parts of aborted children,  I put together this simple graphic in honor of every tiny life snuffed out through abortion.

Please share it!
